Total US employment rose 2.5% since ChatGPT launched. Entry-level tech hiring collapsed 67-73% in the same period. AI isn't eliminating work. It's eliminating the bottom rung of the ladder while making the middle and top rungs more valuable. If you have domain expertise, that's not a threat. That's a setup.

Proof of value that you can combine domain knowledge with AI tools to create measurable outcomes. This matters more than any certificate in a hiring conversation. A working prototype that saves someone $1,000 a month tells an employer more about your capability than a Stanford credential.

The $1,000 threshold is deliberate. Large enough to be worth solving. Small enough to tackle without organizational approval. Specific enough to measure whether your solution works.

A note on what bad problem selection looks like: if the problem requires access to proprietary data you no longer have, it's the wrong problem. If it requires coordinating with three departments to test, it's too big. If nobody can tell you what it costs today, you can't prove you saved anything. The best problems are the ones you personally experienced and can validate with your own judgment.
